Scratch is a tool with endless possibilities. Enhance your lessons by using this interactive tool which allows students to work collaboratively. They can imagine their project, plan and design its structure, then by using simple programming commands, create scripts, characters and finally share it in the online community.
Scratch allows students of all ages to integrate creativity into stories and animation and by using a simple graphic interface also learn the basics of computer programming.
However as it a free online tool, any projects produced using it and then shared online become available for anyone else to use.
Another point to note is that Scratch requires a high level of supervision by teachers as they cannot monitor each students activities centrally and therefore cannot prevent them from downloading inappropriate material from the internet It is therefore important that teachers firstly are proficient at using the tool and secondly maintain a mobile presence in the classroom.
Why Scratch ?
''One of the great things about Scratch is how accessible it is to any age group or skill level. I have used it with children as young as first grade, yet college students and programmers have also created incredible and inspiring content. I first offered Scratch as an after school class for elementary students, during which they designed their own games.''
